Alexander: Capill clearly remains unrepentant
Convicted child sex offender Graham Capill is clearly short on remorse and stands little chance of being rehabilitated, United Future law and order spokesman Marc Alexander said today after Capill's decision to appeal his nine-year sentence.
"As it is, he is already eligible for parole after three years - which is a travesty of justice in itself when one considers the seriousness of his offending - and now he wants even less jail time," Mr Alexander said.
"One thing is very clear: while Capill is focused on Capill and feeling sorry for himself, he is an unrepentant child molester and has no place in free society."
He said the Capill case was a clear example of the faults of the parole system and sentence discounting, particularly in cases involving multiple offences.
"The sad reality is that nine years is not enough for Graham Capill," Mr Alexander said.
