Lange's Legacy Will Live On - Peters
David Lange led New Zealand during one of its most turbulent periods of economic and social change. He had a unique combination of wit, intelligence and warmth which marked him apart from other political leaders, says Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Lange set great oratorical standards on the world stage. He made a small nation proud while standing up for our views, particularly on the nuclear free issue, often in unwelcome environments. He would not be bullied.
“For those who were in Parliament during his tenure, his force of personality and brilliant humor often relieved the debating chamber of its boring and turgid reputation. He made his arguments with both clarity and wit and when in full flight was a sight to behold.
“New Zealand First wishes to send our condolences to all of the Lange family. He will be fondly remembered as he should be as a great New Zealander.
“Ultimately though it will be his nuclear free legacy for which Lange will be remembered by future generations – and this nation owes the memory of David Lange an enduring commitment to our nuclear free status,” said Mr Peters.
