Greens & Labour will freeze roading progress
National Party Deputy Leader Gerry Brownlee says Labour is in denial over its favoured coalition partner's plans for
roading.
"Pete Hodgson and Helen Clark aren't being honest with the public. They know what the Greens' roading policy is and
Labour has already shown it is prepared to sacrifice transport policy for Greens' support."
Mr Brownlee has released quotes from the Greens' Auckland Transport policy paper released on August 08, to support his
point.
'If the Greens are in Government after the election,' Green Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says, 'we'll be insisting on
prioritising national funding for public transport rather than expensive new urban highways. As a first step, this will
mean earmarking all of the $500 million recently announced for new transport projects to new public transport
infrastructure.'
Mr Brownlee says this is a clear sign that the Greens will not allow Labour to fix the roading network.
"The Greens already claim to have a significant say in roading policy. It's little wonder so much of the country is in
gridlock," says Mr Brownlee.
