Commentator catches up with UF

United Future leader Peter Dunne expressed his pleasure today that a prominent political commentator had finally come round to United Future's view of one of the central issues in this election campaign - the stability of the next Government.

"In his regular political tipsheet, Political Update, Richard Harman, commentator and producer of TV One's Agenda programme, suggests Labour will be ahead by a slender margin on election night.

"He then goes on to ponder the shape of any future government involving Labour, the Greens, the Maori Party and New Zealand First.

"Mr Harman queries whether the Greens will pass the five percent barrier, he notes the Maori Party has voted more with National than Labour, and he speculates that NZ First will only support the Government on matters of supply.

"Tellingly, Harman then writes 'Oh dear! If that is the case, then it might be reasonable to suppose that the next three years will be years of acute political instability. Who is willing to bet, therefore, that inside the last week of the campaign, stability becomes the overwhelming issue?'

"Inexplicably, Mr Harman fails to mention United Future, which has provided stable government to New Zealand for the past three years and has been saying for a long time that it is one of the key issues in this campaign, if the voters want to see a continuation of the prosperity we have enjoyed over recent years," said Mr Dunne.
