The Green Party wishes the New Zealand cricket team a trouble-free visit to Zimbabwe, with the team expected to travel there from Namibia today.
"While we don't want the Black Caps to go to Zimbabwe in the first place, we hope and pray they return home safely," Green Co-Leader Rod Donald says.
"The Greens remain resolute in our opposition to sporting contacts with Zimbabwe. However, we can only hope that the domestic turmoil in Zimbabwe does not have personal repercussions for our sportsmen.
"Unfortunately, their very presence in Zimbabwe means our sporting heroes will become pawns in Robert Mugabe's power play.
"The economic situation in Zimbabwe will get even worse following China's rejection of Mugabe's appeal for a $1.5 billion rescue package."
