Clark must back Mallard - or sack him

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said Prime Minister Helen Clark either has to back Trevor Mallard in his monstrous attack on the National Party or sack him.
"Trevor Mallard's claim that National's election campaign is being financed and run from the United States is designed to carry the clear implication that the party is under the influence of a foreign power. It's clearly false and Mallard has produced no evidence to back up his monstrous claim.
"It's not just Mallard's credibility on the line over whether he can be trusted. It's also Helen Clark's. She's got to back Mallard or sack him.
"We know Helen Clark has set new low standards of ministerial accountability. But here's a clear case of a Minister who just make things up to suit his own political ends. That doesn't seem to worry Helen Clark.
"The real question that Mallard has raised with his attack is whether he and Helen Clark can be trusted," Mr Hide said.
