Ogilvy: Great news for common sense, practical
education
United Future is pleased to see the results of the Tertiary Education Sector Review will redirect money from low-quality courses into relevant and practical courses, the party's education spokesman, Bernie Ogilvy, said today.
“United Future supports an emphasis on the relevancy of education. We endorse an education system that values and puts resources into plugging skill shortages.
“We are pleased to see more money put into improving adult literacy and numeracy. As a nation, we are condemning ourselves to an eternally backward standard of living if we continue to permit 20 per cent of adults to be functionally illiterate and innumerate," Mr Ogilvy said.
In this year’s Budget, United Future successfully advocated for more funding for workplace literacy and numeracy and expanded industry training. This resulted in an extra $13 million for these highly rewarding areas.
United Future’s tertiary education policy is focused on funding high quality courses that result in jobs and this review echoes this intention, he said
