Spin Mistress Accepts Tax Is Election Issue - ACT

Mistress of Spin finally accepts that tax cuts are the election issue

ACT Leader Rodney Hide said today that Prime Minister Helen Clark was on the run over Labour’s overtaxing of hardworking Kiwis.

“Helen Clark has been scoffing at the need for tax cuts for years. At every opportunity she and Michael Cullen have piled on more taxes.

“In a typical Helen Clark flip-flop, she is now declaring the Working for Families package

‘tax relief’. It isn’t. It’s a handout. Her strategy is to tax New Zealanders hard and then give some back to those she deems needy. Helen Clark wants as many people as possible to be dependent on the Government.

“Helen Clark’s flip-flops aren’t policy changes – just word changes. It’s where black becomes white and white becomes black.

“Tax relief occurs when you pay less tax. It doesn’t occur where you pay more tax and then get a fraction back as a handout.

“It’s this endless Prime Ministerial spin that New Zealanders are heartily sick of. They want a change of government and a change of direction.

“The only way that New Zealanders can guarantee that change is to give their Party Vote to ACT. After all, it’s been ACT that has championed tax cuts since its formation. Now like National, Labour is talking tax cuts – but Kiwis want action, not words. The only way they can get action is to Party Vote ACT.
