Travelling Top Art exhibition coming

Travelling Top Art exhibition coming to a location near you!

Associate Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Judith Tizard today hosted the touring Top Art Exhibition in the Grand Hall at Parliament.

Top Art is an annual exhibition that tours nationwide and is organised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). The exhibition features the top Visual Arts folios from last year’s level 3 NCEA senior secondary school students, covering photography, design, printmaking, sculpture and painting.

The work of 47 students is featured, and over the next three months the exhibition, which is travelling in two parts, will be featured in 20 towns and cities.

“I encourage parents, teachers, pupils, and all who are interested in the arts and in the work of our young people, to visit this exhibition as it tours around the country. The artworks are extraordinary and I warmly congratulate the students on their remarkable achievements," Judith Tizard said.

“Top Art highlights one of the many ways our students shine. In combination with events like the Rock Quest and the Schools' Shakespeare competition, students now have an audience for their talent, and a network of events that allow them to excel.

"This government supports the arts, because we recognise that the arts are not just passing interest for students, to be abandoned in adulthood in favour of ‘more serious’ occupations. Creativity plays an important part in a range of professions and the talent shown by these students points to very promising futures.

“Our students are achieving at the highest standards and this exhibition presents an excellent opportunity to celebrate their creative successes,” Judith Tizard said.

The touring itinerary can be found on www.topart.school.nz.
