Peters Calls For Compassion In Lehmann Case
“Labour’s charm offensive with seniors has been exposed as a sham following its shameful mistreatment of 80 year old Dawn Lehmann”, says New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Not content with forcing Mrs Lehmann and her family to endure a protracted legal case over her husband’s asbestosis, this government is now going to drive Mrs Lehman onto the streets through forcing her to sell her house”, said Mr Peters.
“With Mrs Lehmann now seemingly opting out of further legal appeals due to the huge strain on her health and financial circumstances, this callous government must finally show some heart and waive her ACC repayment immediately.
“To not do so simply consigns Mrs Lehmann to the worst kind of government neglect – removing the roof from over her head.
“It is shameful that this government is quick to condemn the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe for destroying people’s homes, yet is willing to do the same thing here to a vulnerable senior citizen who has already been through enough.
“As the good book says, “by their fruits you shall know them”. In this case, Labour’s actions speak loud and clear about how much they value seniors. Let this be a warning to any seniors thinking of voting for Labour”, concluded Mr Peters.
