Conscience Vote on Anti-Smacking Bill
New Zealand First MPs will exercise a conscience vote on Sue Bradford’s anti-smacking bill.
The issue was discussed and decided at a recent Caucus.
New Zealand First leader Rt Hon Winston Peters says the debate on whether there should be a complete ban on smacking is a contentious one, and New Zealand First MPs will be voting based on their personal views or conscience on this issue.
“A recent newspaper report that New Zealand First is in full support of the proposed legislation was not based on facts,” said Mr Peters.
