Reprimanding an employee for displaying politically incorrect behaviour shows how out of touch and politically correct New Zealand has become under Labour, ACT Deputy leader Dr Muriel Newman said today.

Dr Newman was responding to the case of a female Auckland probation officer who has received a verbal warning for breaking Maori protocol by refusing to move to the back when asked to do so at a Department of Corrections poroporoaki (farewell) for prisoners graduating from a course.

“It is political correctness gone mad. Women are being made to feel like they are second-class citizens through Maori protocol dominating the workforce. This is not a Maori country. We are supposed to be part of a civilised Western democracy, but this is a classic example of people being made to kowtow to the politically correct agenda of Helen Clark’s Socialist Republic of Aotearoa.

“This woman should not be penalised but applauded for standing up to this politically correct madness.

“What is really worrying is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. How much more PC nonsense is going on in the public service that never comes to the public’s attention because people are too scared to say anything?

“I call on public servants up and down the country to tell me about their unsavoury PC experiences.

“We must put an end to this politically correct nonsense that is rife under Helen Clark’s administration.

“New Zealanders are sick and tired of Labour’s obsession with political correctness. It must be expunged from New Zealand society and the public sector in particular,” Dr Newman said.
