Waitangi Tribunal reappointments
Today the Minister
of Mâori Affairs, Hon Parekura Horomia, announced the
reappointment of Joanne Morris, Dr Monty Soutar, Gloria
Herbert and Joseph Northover to the Waitangi Tribunal, each
for a further term of three years.
Joanne Morris is an experienced lawyer, who has served as a Law Commissioner as well as on other government boards and committees. She has also held a range of senior roles within the New Zealand public service.
Dr Monty Soutar specialises in Mâori traditional and post-contact history. He has significant experience in historical research, vast experience in dealing with Mâori Land Court records and has worked with a number of iwi and Mâori communities.
Gloria Herbert has extensive experience of working for iwi and Mâori organisations and in Mâori interactions with central and local government. She has held numerous board appointments in both the private and voluntary sectors.
Joseph Northover has extensive experience as a claimant co-ordinator and kaumâtua in Tribunal hearings. He has given and continues to provide cultural support to a diverse range of organisations.
"The four members being reappointed are all highly valued members of the Tribunal" said Mr Horomia.
