Reaction To Kelly Comments PC Gone Mad

Rt Hon Winston Peters told an Ashburton audience today that the reaction to New Zealand High Commissioner to Canada Graham Kelly’s recent comments was PC gone mad and one more sign that some New Zealanders simply can’t handle the truth.

“The fact is that prior to the arrival of European settlement, Maori lived in a savage society in which inter tribal war was a very frequent occurrence and yes a number of people got eaten in the process”, said Mr Peters.

“No amount of political correctness can change the facts and fortunately Maori have moved on and so should the language cops.

“Kelly’s comments about Asians stripping our foreshore beds is sadly also correct and there are a whole lot of Maori and Europeans helping them as many recent court cases will attest.

“What is required is leadership to face up to the facts and fix things up instead of tut tutting in high places”, said Mr Peters.
