ACT launches tax petition after budget backlash

Rodney Hide Friday, Press Releases - Taxation

ACT leader Rodney Hide today launched a tax petition in response to the huge public backlash over Finance Minister Michael Cullen’s loopy do-nothing budget.

“I have been inundated with emails, faxes and phone calls from outraged New Zealanders who are disgusted that the Government’s deep dark tax secret has turned out to be nothing more than 70 cents a week. And that’s not for another three years,” Mr Hide said.

“The Kiwis contacting me want to know what they can do about it.

“I am telling them they will have to vote ACT at the election.

“Today I am launching a tax petition that asks the Government to return the $7 billion surplus to working New Zealanders through a tax cut for every worker.

“I am sending it to all of the people who have contacted me. I am also sending it to half a million households throughout the country.

“I want as many New Zealand workers as possible to sign it in the next month.

“New Zealanders deserve a tax cut. Signing my petition is the way hardworking Kiwis can register their disgust at Labour’s tax grab,” Mr Hide said.
