Copeland pleased with tax bracket changes

United Future revenue spokesperson Gordon Copeland today claimed victory for his party following Finance Minister Michael Cullen’s announcement that the tax brackets will be moved upwards on 1 April 2008.

“As is well known, I have been pestering the Government to adjust the tax bracket thresholds for a couple of years now. So I am pleased to see that the log jam has at last been broken.

“It’s a pity though that we have to wait until 1 April 2008 to see this adjustment, which is already overdue, kick in.

“However, the reality is that it wouldn’t be happening at all without the effective advocacy of United Future, so from that point of view it’s a victory and a moment to savour.”

Mr Copeland stated that the party will respond in the near future with details of United Future’s tax policy but promised that it will continue to contain some innovative and distinctive features.

Ends.
