Progressive promotes NZ as events destination
Progressive leader Jim Anderton wants a report on the changes needed in the RMA to make New Zealand a better venue for events.
He says the series of hurdles for a V8 race has been a fiasco.
“Whatever side anyone is on over the motor race – and I supported it – this event was lost because of delays rather than because of an honest ‘up or down’ decision.
“That is no way to position New Zealand as a world class venue for events.
“Major events are crucial for economic development. Australian cities the size of New Zealand, like Sydney and Melbourne, aim to host major international events every week.
“New Zealand needs to pursue the same ambition. Some people will be inconvenienced, but it will make New Zealand a much more exciting and vibrant place to live as well as economically stronger.
“But if we’re going to bring viable events to New Zealand, the Resource Management Act and all components of New Zealand legislation need to operate sensibly,” Jim Anderton said.
