PM looks for excuse to call early election Rodney Hide

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said Prime Minister Helen Clark was now looking for any half-pie excuse to go to the polls early as the economy begins to sour.
Mr Hide was responding to the latest National Bank survey of business confidence that shows a net 48 percent of businesses surveyed have a pessimistic outlook for the economy.
“We have strikes, higher interest rates, falling GDP growth and now business confidence dropping like a stone. Helen Clark doesn’t want things to get any worse.
“Helen Clark’s driving ambition is to be the first Labour Prime Minister to win a third term. She’s desperate to call an election before her anti-business, anti-growth policies begin to bite.
“Her challenge is to come up with an excuse for going early. But every New Zealander will know the real reason,” Mr Hide said.
