Stoppages stats an 'historical snapshot'
National Party Industrial Relations spokesman Wayne Mapp says the latest set of statistics on work stoppages provides only an "historical snapshot".
The statistics cover the period ending December 2004.
"Given the flurry of strike activity in the past few weeks, the results of the next quarter will be keenly watched.
"Unions are only now starting to flex the muscle that Labour gave them under its anti-business pro-union changes to employment law. Of course it's the same law which John Tamihere correctly observed gave too much away to Labour's mates in the union movement.
"National predicted increased union militancy as a result of these changes, and what's becoming increasingly clear now to most New Zealanders is that Labour's chickens are coming home to roost," says Dr Mapp.
