NZ First Asks: Will Parliament's Prayer Remain?
Will the new Speaker continue the tradition of Jonathan Hunt and his predecessors of reciting a prayer at the start of every parliamentary sitting day,” New Zealand First MP Craig McNair asked today.
Is part of Margaret Wilson’s agenda to get rid of the prayer as many of her Labour colleges have publicly remarked should occur?
“It would also be interesting to know whether United Future made sure this would not be part of her agenda before deciding to block-vote for Ms Wilson as speaker.
“Many New Zealander’s are concerned about the never ending barrage of political correctness and social engineering this Government has undertaken, and removing parliaments prayer would be another step down that path.
“It is a step we should not
take,” concluded Mr McNair.
