Spam proposal a complete waste of time
ACT Leader Rodney Hide today described Labour's proposed legislation to fine computer spammers as a complete waste of time.
"Almost all the spam comes from overseas spammers. The legislation won't be able to deter them. What's more, New Zealand spammers could avoid being caught out by re-routing via overseas servers.
"I look forward to seeing the details of the legislation, but what we've seen of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Bill so far won't make one bit of difference.
"The Nigerian scammers who use spam aren't going to be worried about David Cunliffe's proposals."
Mr Hide said the best tool against spam is to get anti-spam software and keep it updated.
"The Information Technology Minister is more keen to be seen doing something, than addressing the real problems," said Mr Hide.
The ACT Leader, who has his
own blog (
http://www.rodneyhide.com/Diary), says he fights an
ongoing battle against spam.
