Keep An Eye On Telecom Says Catchpole
New Zealand First communications spokesperson Brent Catchpole is urging New Zealanders to keep an eye on Telecom following the company’s recent breach of the Fair Trading Act.
Telecom has reportedly been convicted for failing to disclose a 12 cents per minute charge for calls made to an 08322 information line, which meant that customers were being charged unknowingly for calls made to that number.
“The enormous profits Telecom sits on are a result of greed and pricing policies designed to exploit consumers,” said Mr Catchpole.
“A Commerce Commission investigation of Telecom should ensure that these rip-off merchants are no longer allowed to operate without adequate regulation because it is clear that consumers are not being given a fair go.
“We need to
create real competition in the telecommunications market
place in order to put a stop to Telecom’s continually rising
rates, hidden service costs and other charges,” concluded Mr
Catchpole.
