Labour attacks the rich and successful

Labour attacks the rich and successful

ACT Leader Rodney Hide said today that the Labour Party's further attack on rich and successful families in New Zealand was shooting the economy in the foot.

"We need more rich and successful families if we are to succeed as a nation. Labour seems hell-bent on driving them away. It's further proof that Helen Clark is anti-success and anti-achievement.

"Labour wants the business of private companies opened up to public scrutiny. Margaret Wilson's proposed reforms to the Financial Reporting Act will require limited liability to file audited company accounts open for public inspection.

"It's hard to see why - other than a prurient interest in the business affairs of successful people.

"We need to attract and retain rich and successful entrepreneurs. Not drive them offshore with onerous tax rates, heavy compliance costs, and unnecessary disclosure of their business affairs.

"Helen Clark would be better off holding her own Ministers accountable for their spending of other people's money rather than sticking her nose into the affairs of private people who earn their own money and create the wealth and jobs that benefit us all," said Mr Hide.
