Mallard must issue Wananga instructions
The Education Minister must make public the new instructions he has given to the Auditor-General for an investigation into funding at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, says National's Deputy Leader and Maori Affairs spokesman, Gerry Brownlee.
"Serious allegations are being raised about the massive funding increase - from $3.9 million to $239 million in seven years - for Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
"Trevor Mallard told Parliament today that he would ask the Auditor-General to expand his investigation, and now he must make public his new instructions.
"These allegations are extremely serious and it is important that we know how they are being investigated.
"Mr Mallard says he has been concerned for seven years about the funding of this organisation, but he has done nothing but hand over more money.
"It will be no comfort to taxpayers to know that the unit in his ministry that is already saying there are no problems here is the same unit that said there were no problems with the COOL-IT scheme at Christchurch Polytechnic," Mr Brownlee says.
"I am worried already."
