Scaling Essential In Scholarship Exams
New Zealand First education spokesperson, Brian Donnelly, is calling on the government to immediately implement a policy of scaling for scholarship examinations.
“The idea that there can be an equitable commonality of standards across subject areas without statistical modification is a nonsense,” said Mr Donnelly.
“The government must move quickly on this issue or there will be a repeat fiasco at the end of 2005. The high stakes nature of NCEA Level 4 with prizes up to $45,000 demand such an action by the government.
“This government must not allow an unthinking adherence to standards-based assessment where it is not appropriate to sink NCEA,” said Mr Donnelly.
