Gerry Eckhoff - Press Releases - Rural

ACT Rural Affairs spokesman Gerry Eckhoff today welcomed an opportunity to examine Agriculture Minister Jim Sutton's inept and shameful record as an advocate for rural New Zealand.

The MP was responding to the Minister's lodging of a Notice of Motion calling on him to withdraw and apologise for labelling Mr Sutton a "quisling" during a speech in December on Labour's plan to strip farmers of their property rights.

"I look forward with much relish to the Minister moving his motion in Parliament. It would be an ideal opportunity for me, on behalf of rural New Zealand, to put Mr Sutton's record under the microscope," Mr Eckhoff said.

"Mr Sutton has completely abandoned rural communities up and down New Zealand, and has failed to stand-up for farmers at the Cabinet table. For six long years this anti-farmer Labour Party has taken farmers for granted".

Mr Eckhoff challenged the Minister to hurry up and move his motion in the House. "My message to Mr Sutton is to bring it on!" he said.
