Auschwitz: a time to reflect
National Party Leader Don Brash says New Zealanders should pause for a moment today to remember the six million Jews who were exterminated in the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz.
Today is the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in World War II.
"What happened there was surely the worst abomination in human history, the greatest example of man's inhumanity to man, and we should never forget it, and we should learn from it.
"We must remember that evil lurks more easily where there is ignorance and we must strive to see this never happens again.
"Our thoughts go with the Jewish people, and the survivors of those terrible days and their families," Dr Brash says.
