Locke selected to run in Epsom
Green MP Keith Locke was last night selected as the Green Party candidate for the Epsom electorate.
"I'm sure we can improve the Green vote in the electorate," said Mr Locke, who lives in Mt Eden and is the Party's Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Spokesperson.
"There is growing support for Green policies, like the need for a much better public transport system.
"This was shown in last year's local body election when the Eastern Highway got the thumbs down and Epsom voters backed the pro-public transport candidates in Action Hobson and City Vision.
"Auckland can't afford to remain such a car dependent city, not only because of the congestion it causes, but also because oil prices are going up as reserves run down.
"Another main theme of my campaign will be protecting and enhancing green space in Mt Eden, Epsom, Parnell and Remuera. This includes developing a better management plan for the Maungawhau domain so that its use is not dominated by tourist buses.
"My focus will be increasing the Green's Party Vote in the electorate, through explaining our policies and pointing out the shortcomings of Labour, National and ACT," said Mr Locke.
