PC spirals out of control at Corrections Dept
Media reports of a probation officer facing disciplinary action after breaching cultural protocols, shows that political correctness is out of control in New Zealand, ACT Deputy Leader Dr Muriel Newman said today.
The MP was responding to news that an Auckland female probation officer is the subject of a Corrections Department employment investigation after she refused to stand with other women at the back of a gathering to farewell prisoners who had just completed a course.
"It's disgraceful that this probation officer's career is in jeopardy because she failed to kowtow to the department's politically correct cultural protocols," Dr Newman said.
"It beggars belief that in 21st century New Zealand this would even be an issue, but it's typical of the cultural humbug that pervades our civil service under Helen Clark.
"New Zealanders are sick and tired of Labour's obsession with political correctness. The reaction to Dr Brash's Orewa speech last year highlighted the frustration many Kiwis feel about the path this government is taking our country.
"The Corrections Department should see commonsense and drop its investigation into the probation officer's behavior, and let her just get on with the job she is paid to do," Dr Newman said.
Dr Newman recently launched her PC Free New Zealand campaign. Further information can be found at www.PCFreeNZ.co.nz (http://www.PCFreeNZ.co.nz) .
