Turner calls for Health Ministry clarity on party pills

United Future deputy leader Judy Turner today called upon the Health Ministry to give a clear position on party and herbal pills, which are now regularly putting young people into hospital emergency departments.

“This is clearly a big problem and it is time that the Health Ministry seriously stepped forward and developed a clear position,” Mrs Turner said.

“Parliament is already looking at regulating such pills under the Misuse of Drugs Act, but we need the ministry to provide solid information on just how serious a risk these pills are posing both here and overseas,” she said.

“One thing is certain: they don’t belong in the category of herbal and dietary supplements.”
