Kedgley confirmed as Green Wellington Central candidate
Two-term MP Sue Kedgley has been selected unopposed as the Green Party's candidate for the Wellington Central
electorate.
For the second election in a row, Ms Kedgley was the sole nominee.
Ms Kedgley said the Greens would be mounting a strong campaign in Wellington Central, focused on issues such as
the Bypass, heritage and transport issues, food safety and genetic engineering. But the aim of the campaign would be to
increase the Party Vote for the Greens.
"Last election, Wellington Central got the highest Green Party vote in the country. We believe we can do even
better this time," Ms Kedgley said.
While she would be campaigning for the Party vote, she intended to remain a strong voice for the electorate's
interests in Parliament.
"I look forward to continuing to represent the interests of Wellington Central in Parliament, as well as the
interests of New Zealand and indeed, the planet."
Ms Kedgley said she expected Wellington Central would be a keenly fought campaign, attracting considerable
national interest as a result.
"Wellington is my home and I feel honoured to have been chosen to represent the Green Party in this high profile
electorate."
Born and raised in Wellington, where she has lived most of her life, Ms Kedgley first entered Parliament as a
List MP in 1999, and was ranked fifth on the Green list in 2002. Prior to becoming an MP she was a Wellington City
Councillor for seven years.
