Cuba Mall Vagrants Could Be "Jafas" By Xmas
"Auckland's new city councillors want to feel good. They want to increase rates so their ratepayers can house more homeless", Mr Franks said today
"As ACT Justice spokesman, I have a win-win-win proposal to help Dr Hucker's team, Wellington, and some poor people.
"The Wellington City Council must include some non-transferable, one-way bus tickets in the package it's developing for the vagrants befouling central Wellington.
"Revolving door court cases have frustrated the Wellington City Council, and the city's citizens and businesses. The vagrants have taken over public space and given the fingers to laws protecting neighbouring businesses.
"A bus ticket would be kind to the vagrants. Auckland is warmer. It has more small businesses for them to prey upon. It doesn't have a single city centre for them to blight.
"The Government has been pouring money in Auckland's direction, so they can apply some in this direction when the ratepayers lose their charitable feelings.
"This would also return another favour. The Government, for years, has been releasing refugees from its reception centre in Auckland with one-way tickets to Wellington, where they can claim homelessness to the Wellington City Council.
"Everyone will win. The Wellington City Council can stop worrying about feel good programs and allow the new Auckland councillors to experiment on behalf of the whole of New Zealand. Tough love has had some success overseas. It sounds different from Dr Hucker's proposals.
"No doubt they will be heavily subsidised by their Cabinet friends. In Auckland, the Government competes for voter favour. Wellington misses out. The Government figures it has got the votes here safely locked up with tame Labour MPs who never rock the boat," Mr Franks said.
