Breastfeeding Petition Tabled in the House

Today Steve Chadwick MP congratulated the hard work of Liz Weatherly whose petition was tabled in Parliament today. Over 8000 signatures were collected illustrating huge public support to mothers who want to breastfeed in public places.

“As Chair of the Health Select Committee, I look forward to this petition being presented to my committee where we can have cross-party debate and address this important issue” said Steve Chadwick.

Steve Chadwick MP values the importance of this natural practice and supports campaigns to get rid of the discrimination towards breastfeeding mothers.

“As a midwife and a mother I am very supportive of this petition. Every day we hear of mothers shunted away from places because owners are unhappy about the attention a feeding mother could create.”

“Breastfeeding is normal and the gold standard food for babies. We are attempting to encourage all mothers to be supported to feed exclusively for six months.”

“You can’t tell babies to wait until they’re home again if they are hungry. They want their food any time, any place and we all need to support and enjoy this relationship.”

The current controversy about obesity in later life can be so easily stemmed if more mothers breastfeed their babies for six months.
