NZ needs more police, says National
New Zealand needs more police, says National’s Police spokesman, Tony Ryall.
He is commenting on a statement by Police Association President Greg O’Connor who said today that more police must be seen on the beat to meet the public’s demand for greater security.
“Mr O’Connor’s concerns are echoed up and down New Zealand every day and it is time something was done about it,” Mr Ryall says.
“It is clear we need more police on the beat and to do that we need more police.
“National will recruit and resource the additional police officers necessary to do the job.
“People must feel safer, wherever they go. We should be safe in our homes and on our streets. Our kids should be able to walk home safely from school, and we shouldn’t feel uneasy parking our cars on city streets in the evening.
“This Government clearly doesn’t believe in training more police, so it is time we had a Government that did,” Mr Ryall says.
