PM pays tribute to Maurice Shadbolt
Prime Minister and Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Clark today paid tribute to writer Maurice Shadbolt, who died yesterday, saying he made a hugely important and valuable contribution to literature in New Zealand.
“The news of Maurice’s death is very sad. He was one of New Zealand’s leading literary figures, ranking as one of our finest ever novelists and short-story writers.
“He won many awards in his career, and was awarded a CBE for services to literature in 1989.
“His passing is a loss. There was a unique spirit and energy in his work and he will be widely mourned,” Helen Clark said.
