Green bouquets for new drug education programme

Green MP Nandor Tanczos today congratulated ALAC for their new programme to assist young people at risk of alcohol or drug-related problems, called Smashed n Stoned.

“The Greens have consistently called for the development of evidence-based interventions and, in particular, early intervention,” said Nandor, the Green spokesperson for Drug Policy.

“This programme from ALAC stands out as an excellent example of a non-judgemental, safe and effective intervention.

“I call on other political parties to support an evidence-based approach to drugs, in particular in light of the attacks by United Future’s Marc Alexander on an excellent resource, the Drug Education Guidelines for Schools, produced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

“Drug education programmes, like drug policy, should be driven by evidence of what works, not political dogma,” he said.
