Alexander: Statute of limitations increase a good move
United Future law and order spokesman Marc Alexander this evening welcomed Government moves to increase the statute of limitations on the rights of crime victims to sue the criminals who offended against them.
"That is a good move and I welcome it. Anything that swings the balance in favour of victims is stepping in the right direction," Mr Alexander, a strong opponent of compensation for prisoners, said.
"And if this goes some considerable way to taking the 'gold mining' aspect out of the actions of affronted criminals seeking a fast buck from the system they have themselves shown absolutely no regard for, then that's a good thing.
"The hugest anomaly in the whole issue of compensation for prisoners has always been that their victims have been denied the same right," he said.
