Youth Parliament: NZ politics in good heart

National Party Leader Don Brash says this year’s Youth Parliament shows the future of New Zealand politics is in good heart.

The three-day mock Parliament begins in Wellington today.

One hundred and twenty people aged between 16 and 18 will fill the seats of MPs for a session where they will ask questions of Cabinet Ministers, debate their own legislation and sit on select committees.

“It’s great to see so many young people interested in the workings of Parliament and the democratic process,” says Dr Brash.

“These young people will go on to be leaders – some, no doubt, in Parliament, others in business and the community.”

Dr Brash is represented by Supriya Singh, a 17 year old from Auckland Girls’ Grammar.

“From what I have seen so far, our future is in very good hands,” says Dr Brash.
