Prebble Files For Appeal Against Awatere Huata

ACT New Zealand MP Richard Prebble today announced that he and fellow ACT MP Ken Shirley had filed an application in
the new Supreme Court for leave to bring a civil appeal against Donna Awatere Huata MP's injunction preventing ACT from
having her expelled from Parliament.
"While not supported by Mrs Awatere Huata's lawyers, I understand that this application for leave will not be opposed.
"Given the important constitutional issues involved, and the fact that Bills have been passed in the New Zealand
Parliament by as few as one vote, I expect the Supreme Court to agree to hear our appeal.
"Our lawyers have applied for urgency and, we estimate, the case could be heard as soon as late September. If so, it
will be the first case to be heard by the court.
"Most will agree that a case involving constitutional issues is a good way for our highest court to begin," Mr Prebble
said.
