Nuclear Ships Issue Proves Blind Alley

Tuesday 22 Jun 2004
Rodney Hide
Press Releases -- Foreign Affairs & Defence

ACT New Zealand Leader and Defence Spokesman Rodney Hide today said that the National Party's position on nuclear-powered ships was disappointing.

"National's nuclear-powered ship debate has been all process and no outcome. The status quo rules.

"What New Zealand needs is a comprehensive policy providing for the security of the country. The nuclear ships issue is just a part of that - and a small part.

"The National Party has exhausted itself on a sidetrack which has turned out to be a blind alley for them," Mr Hide said.
