Copeland appalled by Greens’ powerless agenda
United Future’s energy spokesman, Gordon Copeland, says he’s pleased that the Green Party has finally had the honesty to reveal its fundamental energy policy of consigning New Zealand to the Dark Ages – literally.
“The Greens’ vehement opposition to the proposed hydro dam at Dobson on the West Coast shows they value a few scrawny stands of gorse above the energy needs of New Zealanders who live at the top of the South Island.
“When you add this mediaeval attitude to the Greens’ opposition to noisy wind turbines, gas-fired power stations, coal-fired power stations and geothermal stations, it becomes clear that the Greens believe New Zealand should preserve its pristine environment by abandoning electricity altogether and reverting to living in the Dark Ages.
“By the same bizarre logic, it could be argued that the fundamental cause of traffic congestion is the invention of the wheel – I look forward to the Greens’ next campaign in favour of squaring the circle,” said Mr Copeland.
