Lest We Forget

The battlefields of all the World’s wars are being remembered again as New Zealand prepares for Anzac Day this Sunday.

“New Zealand’s involvement in the Boer, First and Second World wars, and others since, have forged a place in the annals of our history, and places like Chunuk Bair, where the Anzac tradition was formed, hold a special place in the hearts of all New Zealanders,” said New Zealand First veteran affairs spokesperson Bill Gudgeon.

“New Zealand now has peacekeeping missions throughout the World, Anzac Day is a day to honour them as well as veterans.

“On Sunday the veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea, the jungles of Thailand, Malaya, Borneo and South Vietnam, will march in the mist and to the beat of the drums remembering those that did not return. Their medals, so deservedly won, will be polished and on display.

“New Zealand First honours this day and our service men and women who fought so gallantly, and still do, in some cases sacrificing their lives so future generations would be free.

“We will remember them,” said Mr Gudgeon.
