35 years to settle leaky homes claims
It will take 35 years to settle all outstanding leaky homes claims at the present rate of resolution, National's Housing spokesman David Carter says.
Figures released yesterday by the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service National Manager Lisa Ferguson show that 74 out of 1821 claims have been resolved.
"Analysis shows that in the past three weeks only three resolutions have been achieved," Mr Carter says.
"That is one a week on average, and at that rate current active claims will take 35 years to resolve.
"This shows that the Government's assurance that the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service would be a 'speedy, flexible and cost effective' process is a gigantic con.
"Only a Labour Government could seriously claim that as a speedy process.
"The handling of the leaky homes fiasco has been one of absolute deception.
"A lot of bluster and spin has been aimed at getting the issue off the front pages of the newspapers but there has been little substance to back the promises," Mr Carter says.
