Proposals are a Mess
Proposals are a Mess
Wednesday 17 Dec 2003 Richard Prebble Press Releases -- Treaty of Waitangi & Maori Affairs
It is ACT's strong view that the government's response to the foreshore issue has been wrong from day one, ACT Leader Richard Prebble said today.
"Crown law is right. The Court of Appeal decision is wrong in law and should have been appealed to the Privy Council. Alternatively, all that was required was a simple one line Act of Parliament confirming the 90-mile beach decision, which upheld that the foreshore and seabed are in Crown ownership.
"The government's proposals are just a mess because government is being dictated to by the Maori caucus. It is time Labour started governing for all NZ rather than sectional interest groups," Mr Prebble said.
