Government delivers final insult in CYF deaths
"The Labour Government should be ashamed of itself over the way it is managing the release of three important reports into CYF tragedies," says National Party Welfare spokeswoman Katherine Rich
It has been reported that CYF will today release reports into the deaths of Kelly Gush, Tamati Pokaia and the phone call made to the Department by Coral-Ellen Burrows' father Ron.
"This is a cynically timed release on a busy news day.
"The Department knows the three reports won't get the same sort of media attention when they're dumped all at once, on the day that the Government announces its seabed and foreshore plan.
"In the rush before Christmas, MPs will also be denied the chance to ask questions about the reports in Parliament.
"It's bad enough that in each of these tragedies there were enough questions to justify demands for a proper inquiry - but now the Department's delivering one last insult to these children.
"CYF is once again denying them justice.
"If all is well at CYF, why is the Government attempting to hide the findings of these reports?
"National does not accept that this is a coincidence and is now questioning how the public can have faith in a service that goes to such great lengths to disguise its shortcomings," says Mrs Rich.
