"Just more expensive to sit in a traffic jam?"
"Just more expensive to sit in a traffic jam?"
ACT Leader Richard Prebble said in his view, as a former Transport Minister, the Labour government's transport measures will fail to resolve Auckland's gridlock and the nations inferior roading system.
"The fundamental problem is planning delays caused by the unworkability of the Resource Management Act. The Labour government knows that the Resource Management Act can't work - the government's special fast-tracking legislation for Project Aqua on the Waitaki River shows this.
"The Labour government has refused offers from the ACT and National parties to provide a parliamentary majority to streamline the Resource Management Act so new transport infrastructure can be built because the government has done a deal with the Greens.
"The government has
hundreds of millions of dollars generated from motorists
every year that has been diverted to the consolidated fund.
There is a massive surplus, which simply means the country
is being overtaxed. Labour's solution to every problem is
to put on another tax. It's just going to be more
expensive to be sitting in a traffic jam burning fuel,"
Mr Prebble said.
