Save Our Schools Website Launched
ACT New Zealand Education Spokesman Deborah Coddington today welcomed the launch of www.saveourschools.co.nz (http://www.saveourschools.co.nz/) - a website designed to allow communities an opportunity to have their say on the Labour Government's programme of school network reviews.
"On the website, people can download our petition, find out what schools are currently under threat, share their thoughts via the blog, and read the latest news and views on the subject," Miss Coddington said.
"Education Minister Trevor Mallard has foisted these network reviews on communities without adequate consultation, and announced that he's likely to close over 300 small and medium-sized schools throughout New Zealand. This is unjustified, as long as schools under the microscope receive good ERO reports and enjoy strong community support.
"I have created this website as a forum so that concerned parents, teachers and children can voice their opinion and debate the issue under a single umbrella.
"ACT is opposed to Labour's insatiable appetite for closing schools. Its `greatest prime minister' and former education minister Peter Fraser, who campaigned on `education for all' would be ashamed.
"I urge everyone opposed to the Government's network reviews to use this website, sign the petition, and fight it every step of the way," Miss Coddington said.
