Exporters bear brunt of taxing Labour Govt
"Socialists know no bounds when it comes to pushing extra costs on to our exporters," says National Party Customs spokesman Shane Ardern.
"This Government has once again shown its utter contempt for the wealth generators of this country with a $20 million tax on exporters, importers and transport operators.
"New Zealand is totally dependent on exports for its standard of living but this Government appears to think the sector is a bottomless pit ripe for plunder.
"There has been no industry negotiation or consultation; in fact the Border Security Bill is still hearing submissions," Mr Ardern says.
"September 11 changed the way we do business with our major trading partners and I acknowledge we have to respond to the extra security demands placed on freight movements in and out of the USA and Europe.
"When it comes to defence and police, security costs are met by the Crown.
"Why now, when our agricultural sector's involved, does this Government adopt a different view?" Mr Ardern asks.
