Failing families increase under Labour
"Families are increasingly coming under stress and failing their children under the Labour Government," says National
Party Family spokeswoman Judith Collins.
"At a select committee today Child Youth and Family revealed that notifications of abused and at risk children have
increased from 7,238 in September 2002 to 8,902 in September 2003.
"In just the last quarter notification rates have increased by 12.5%.
"This Government has relentlessly set about destroying the traditional family unit and replacing it with feel good talk
and inexperienced social workers," Ms Collins says.
"Social workers have an impossible job trying to make up for policies that are leading to a breakdown of responsibility.
"Almost daily we're hearing another horror story about our children being put in danger or subjected to violence," says
Ms Collins.
"More and more these days children are being treated as commodities, valued for the funding they attract while fathers
are being made to feel irrelevant.
"The National Party is committed to restoring parental responsibility, ending the social engineering and peeling back
the ideological agenda," says Ms Collins.
