Green MP to hand letter to Chinese leader
Green MP Metiria Turei will hand over a letter from Friends of Tibet (New Zealand) to Chinese President Hu Jintao at tonight's state dinner at the Sheraton hotel in Auckland.
The letter urges the Chinese government to engage in a meaningful dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Metiria will wear a black armband of mourning for the Chinese people who have died in the struggle for democracy, and a Tibetan flag armband as a gesture of solidarity with the struggle for a Tibetan homeland.
